October 31st is not just a holiday for trick-or-treating kids; adult Halloween parties are just as much fun especially when spooky cocktails are on offer.

Halloween is a great opportunity to be creative, live in fantasy, and basically have fun. Themed, novelty cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks set a tone for the party and taste amazing. These are some of the best tasting, most colorful, and easiest to make Halloween cocktails.

Cocktails

Banshee

The look: Pale, ghostly white

Recipe:

  • 1 oz. White Crème de Cacao
  • 1 oz. Crème de Banana
  • 1 oz. Cream

Serve in a Cocktail Glass.

Black Martini

The look: Pure black

Recipe:

Make a normal martini and replace regular vodka with black vodka. Blavod makes the only premium black vodka available. For more information visit www.blavod.com

Black Shot

The look: Pure black

Recipe:

Use Blavod or another black vodka. Serve in a shot glass.

Dracula’s Kiss

The look: Deep, blood red and black

Recipe:

  • 1 oz. Black Cherry Vodka
  • ½ oz. Grenadine
  • Cola

Serve in a High Ball Glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and red sugar syrup or grenadine around the rim of the glass, allowing the syrup to drip down the side in order to appear like blood.

Headless Horseman

The look: Dark, almost black

Recipe:

  • 2 oz. Vodka (Black Vodka looks better)
  • 3 dashes Bitters
  • Ginger Ale to Taste

Serve in a High Ball Glass. A Blood Orange can be added as a garnish as well as red sugar syrup or grenadine around the rim of the glass, allowing the syrup to drip down the side in order to appear like blood.

Jack o Lantern

The look: a drink like a big orange pumpkin

Recipe:

  • 1 oz. Cognac
  • ½ oz Grand Marnier
  • 1 ½ oz Orange Juice
  • ½ oz Ginger Ale

Serve in a Low Ball Glass. To finish stick a long thin piece of lime peel into the center of an orange slice, then float the orange slice in the drink with the lime sticking up so that it looks like the top of a pumpkin.

Zombie

The look: Orange and red

Recipe:

  • 1 1/4 oz lemon juice
  • 1 oz dark rum
  • 3/4 oz orange juice
  • 1/2 oz cherry brandy
  • 1/2 oz light rum
  • 1/2 oz high-proof dark rum
  • 2 dashes grenadine

Serve in a High Ball Glass. Garnish with a blood orange and a maraschino cherry. This classic killer is not just for Halloween and can also be a refreshing summer drink; but beware, to many and the drinker will act like a zombie!

Garnishes for Halloween Cocktails

Any cocktail can be turned into a Halloween cocktail with some creative garnishing.

Blood oranges can be used as a ghoulish replacement to any other fruit garnish.

Red sugar syrup or grenadine can be drizzled around the rim or any glass to look like blood. This should be allowed to drip down the side for an added effect.

Cheap toys can be purchased from a Halloween store or a local supermarket during October. Small plastic spiders or eyeballs can be placed on the rim or in the drink. Decorations should only be placed into clear or translucent drinks so that the drinker can see them. This both makes the decoration stand out more and protects the drinker from choking.

Glow sticks can make any drink look haunting. Glow stickers can be placed on the bottom of the drink (underneath the drink, not inside it) or rods can be placed into the drink like swizzle sticks. This will be especially effective if the glow stick is the same color as the drink. If any glow sticks are placed into a drink they must be non toxic!

There are no rules for making cocktails, especially for Halloween! Don’t worry if they don’t look perfect, just mix, decorate, drink and enjoy!
