Spooky Raisin Spiders

Ingredients:

  • 1 ¾ cup brown rice crispy cereal
  • ½ cup California raisins
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter or almonds
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa butter
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 oz. semi-sweet chocolate (melted)
  • 96 tiny thin black licorice strips
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 24 small candies (mini M&Ms) or frosting

Step-By-Step Instructions

  1. Place raisins, peanut butter or almonds, cocoa butter and honey into a food processor and process on medium until a thick paste forms. Transfer contents to a large bowl and mix in cereal using your hands.
  2. Roll and press mixture into 12 balls, then press lightly onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper or tin foil. Pour a small amount of melted chocolate around the bottom of each ball and slide eight small pieces of licorice under each ball to form the legs of the spider. Place treats in refrigerator to harden.
  3. Stir several drops of water into the powdered sugar to make a mixture to glue small candies as eyes onto the spider and serve.

Witches Finger Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 2 squares melting chocolate (chocolate bark)
  • 2 2/3 cups flour
  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¾ cup whole almonds (blanched)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1 tsp salt

  1. Combine egg, butter, almond extract, sugar, and vanilla in a bowl. Mix in the salt and flour. Cover the mixture and refrigerate for about 30 minutes until the dough becomes firm.
  2. Take a small portion of the dough out and shape into fingers by rolling with your fingers.
  3. Score the top of each finger cookie with a knife or spatula to create the look of wrinkles in the knuckles.
  4. Using your finger, press an imprint into the tip of each cookie to create a spot for the almond fingernail. Press an almond into the spot of each finger to look like a fingernail.
  5. Lightly coat a cooking sheet with no-stick cooking spray and place cookies on the sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until the cookies turn a light golden brown color. Remove cookies from oven and place on a cooling rack.
  6. Melt chocolate, place it in a icing piping bag and cut a small hole in the tip. Release chocolate around the nail to give a ghoulish and spooky look. If you have red icing, you can paint the finger to look like blood.
Try something a little different this Halloween and make your own holiday treats that will get you and your guests in the spirit of ghosts, witches, skeletons and spiders.
